FRP Forming Process

FRP, or fiber reinforced plastics, is a composite material made of glass fiber and resin. It has the characteristics of light weight, high strength, and corrosion resistance. It is widely used in ships, automobiles, construction, pipelines and other fields. Here we will introduce the forming method of FRP.
1. Manual coating forming method:
The manual coating forming method is one of the simplest and most common FRP forming methods. First, cut the glass fiber cloth into appropriate size, then place it on the forming mold, and then use a brush to apply the resin to the fiber cloth. Continue to apply and gradually thicken until the design requirements are met. Finally, the resin is hardened through the curing process to form the desired product. This method is simple to operate, low in cost, and suitable for small batch production.
2. Spraying forming method:
The spraying forming method is a commonly used semi-automatic forming method. It first evenly applies a layer of resin on the forming mold with a brush or spray gun, then covers the pre-cut fiber cloth on the resin surface, and sprays another layer of resin. Repeat the above operation until the fiber cloth is completely soaked. Finally, it is cured, and the finished product can be demolded after the resin is completely hardened. Spray molding can improve production efficiency and is suitable for small and medium batch production.
3. Vacuum blister molding:
Vacuum blister molding is a fully automatic molding method suitable for mass production. It first places the fiber cloth on the molding mold, then seals the mold and draws air into it to create a vacuum so that the fiber cloth is close to the mold surface. Next, the resin is sprayed on the fiber cloth through a spray gun or sprayer to make it evenly penetrate the fiber cloth. Finally, the resin is completely hardened by heat curing or cold curing to obtain the finished product. Vacuum blister molding has the characteristics of high efficiency and high precision, and is suitable for large-scale, high-quality production.
4. Compression molding:
Compression molding is a method of squeezing fiber cloth and resin together and forming them by heat curing or cold curing. First, the fiber cloth is placed between the upper and lower heated metal molds and the molds are closed. Next, pressure is applied to the mold through hydraulic or mechanical devices to make the fiber cloth fully contact with the resin and squeeze out the excess resin. Finally, the resin is completely hardened by heat curing or cold curing to obtain the finished product. Compression molding is suitable for the manufacture of large-size, high-strength products.
The above are several common FRP forming methods, each of which has its applicable fields and characteristics. In practical applications, the appropriate forming method can be selected according to product requirements and production scale. With the continuous advancement of technology, it is believed that the forming method of FRP will continue to be updated and improved, bringing more innovation and development to all walks of life.
